The great Albert Einstein said that 'Education is not the learning of facts but the training of the mind to think'. SureStart's approach to teaching is child-centred, incorporating world class and state of the art learning methods. Recognising that every child is unique, our teachers vary their lessons to reach all types of learners – visual and auditory. At SureStart each child learns and is encouraged to take ownership of their own learning experiences. Teachers are experts in their fields, who act as facilitators and coaches rather than the ultimate authority. Teaching from the front of the classroom is rare; instead, our teachers encourage discussion, debate, and collaborative, hands-on activities. Our children build their confidence by taking on daily challenges and regular leadership opportunities. We empower all students to find their voices – the strength to speak up, speak out, and become empowered to chart their own course and write their own stories.
Our School library is one of the best. A welcoming space, it includes areas for research and reading, group work and individual study. A librarian and an assistant are on hand to help the children and support teachers and staff by offering instruction in locating relevant and quality resources. The library is open all through school hours and everyone is encouraged to form a deliberate reading and research culture to boost intellect. The library’s collection of over 3,000 books and reading includes items from all areas of study. Hundreds of fiction, non-fiction and reference books are added to our collection periodically. We have subsisting subscription to print journals and magazines, as well as a comprehensive selection of electronic databases, providing access to thousands of journal articles and quality Internet resources. These are available through our intranet site, updated frequently to ensure that every area of our broad curricula is met. Library users have access to a printer/photocopier within the facility. Library programs include book clubs and in the new session we intend to introduce author visits, frequent contests and more. Student suggestions for new books and innovative programs are welcome and encouraged.
At SureStart we use one of the most integrated information technology programs presently available. Our ICT vision is to "adequately equip students to harness technology in a constructive and responsible manner to enhance their ability to learn and effectively communicate." We optimise learning by enabling all teachers to access networked computers. When appropriate children use their laptops to write reports and essays, conduct research, analyze data, organize their work as well as make presentations and communicate with the world. As we do these, we bear in mind members perform these activities that this access to information heightens the need for critical thinking skills and high moral values. The availability of the computer does not in any way replace the equally important teacher-student contact.
Home Economics as a subject includes but is not limited to food preparation, nutrition, personal finance, family resource management and planning, textile and clothing, household management, design and technology, food science and hospitality. In our Home Economics content, children are made to understand the concepts of family financial management, diet and meal planning, family relationship management, home design and aesthetics. They are also introduced to planning and preparation of healthy meal options.
We work hard to demystify science concepts by making the students practice science from their early years thereby understanding the science behind the concepts. We provide a one stop science laboratory that is well equipped in all ramifications. Our science department integrates studies in various science disciplines- chemistry, physics, biology and environmental science. Our content are centered on the idea that science is a continuous quest to understand and unravel the natural and human-designed world. In addition to coming to terms the basic concepts of science, we aim to improve scientific literacy by providing the platform to acquire the skills for scientific investigation. Equally important is the goal of relating science to technology, society and the environment, in order to make it real and relevant to learners. Science education at SureStart involves curiosity leading to questions and sustained interest. Laboratory investigations, hands-on activities and demonstrations form an integral part of our science and science related courses. These learning methods are designed to arouse the curiosity and sustained interest of the students and afford them the opportunities to understand and appreciate ideas and concepts by and for themselves. SureStart children are equipped with the crucial knowledge and skills necessary to function in and thrive in today's modern-day society. Critical thinking and problem solving are encouraged to prepare them for the changing and complex world. Our science integrates varied technology as tools for inquiry, discovery and learning.
We understand the challenge of school run and offer a dedicated and well co-ordinated pick up and drop off services that relieves the family of this burden. Our buses are safe and provide the comfort required to make the ride pleasurable. Our drivers are remotely monitored and continually trained by a certified team interfacing with the Federal Road Service Corp (FRSC). Minders sit with the children to ensure safety at all times.
Our programmes are structured to help children maximize their cognitive, physical and social potential. It is our utmost desire at SureStart, to help children learn, play, grow and stay happy. We believe that the way children learn is as important as what they learn, which accounts for our educational programmes being designed to inspire children’s love of learning through hands-on lessons that make their educational experience fun!
Welcome to our Early Learning Program, where kindness sits at the centre of everything that we do. At SureStart we know that the best learning takes place when children understand each other. The child's growth in the early years will be rich with social-emotional development as he or she learns how to use their voice and body to communicate and solve problems. We strive to nurture empathy in each child so that they can confidently advocate for themselves, while being mindful of the needs of others. We want our children to genuinely care about themselves and each other. SureStart children learn right from the start that our world is inclusive of all people and that diversity is a fact of life. We are dedicated to cultivating creative, compassionate and innovative young minds through our proprietary curriculum and enrichment programmes that increase learning during the critical stages of early development.
We passionately desire to reinvent teaching and learning to meet the needs of the 21st century child in an ever changing and challenging world.
